Winchester to Hold Public Input Meeting on Millwood AveTraffic Study
The Citizens Advisory Committee of the Winchester-Frederick Metropolitan Planning Organization (Win-Fred MPO) has scheduled a public meeting to receive input on a Traffic Diversion Study currently underway for Millwood Avenue in the City of Winchester. Win-Fred MPO is the primary entity responsible for the region’s transportation planning. The focus of the study is to identify future needs along the study corridor and to determine the short and long-term impacts of closing Millwood Avenue to vehicle traffic between East Jubal Early Drive and Apple Blossom Drive.
MPO officials and representatives of Gorove/Slade Associates Inc., the consultancy retained to conduct the study, will be on hand to provide information, answer questions and accept input from citizens. The study will consider two scenarios: future conditions in the corridor with no changes or improvements, and future conditions with closure of the designated portion of Millwood Avenue. Impacts in a broad area will be examined, including the area near Shenandoah University and S. Pleasant Valley Road in the west, East Jubal Early Drive and Millwood Avenue in the south (including traffic to and from Frontage Road), Princeton Drive and Tulane Drive in the east, and Hollingsworth Drive and Lowry Drive in the north. The study will also consider I-81 ramp traffic.
The public meeting for the Millwood Avenue Traffic Diversion Study will be held at 6:00 pm on September 20 in the Lord Fairfax Room of the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park. Interpretation and special needs services are available by request for all public meetings with 7 days notice.
