Patricia Cutshall
Patricia “Patty” Dunn Cutshall, 83, passed away peacefully of natural causes the morning of Friday, January 27, 2012, in the care of the Blue Ridge Hospice, in Winchester, VA. A beautiful and loving family, headed by her husband, Russell Cutshall, survived her.
Patty was born on November 17, 1928, in Meadville, PA, to David C. and Kathryn Bolard Dunn (both deceased). Patty was the second oldest sibling of four: John C. Dunn, William Dunn (deceased), and Beverly Dunn Ratcliffe.
After graduating from Meadville High School in 1946, Patty attended Alleghany College, later transferring to the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from the Dental Hygienist program in 1948. She became licensed in PA and NY, and began working to provide fluoride to schoolchildren.
In both high school and at college, Patty was a cheerleader and a gymnast. She also enjoyed ice and roller-skating, skiing and golf.
She was married on August 12, 1950, in her parents’ home in Meadville, PA, to Russell Cutshall.
The family lived in Pennsylvania, Georgia, New York (for 50 years), Virginia, and sometimes California, where they wintered.
Patty worked as a school dental hygienist from 1949- through the mid-90’s in PA and NY. She also worked in private practices. She proved to be a remarkable businesswoman, opening the Little Skipper Children’s Shop in the spring of 1986, which had been her dream.
She was a member of the Bath Country Club and member of the Presbyterian Church. She had a flare for home décor, making sure her family’s homes were beautiful. She was also known as the “Shopping Queen,” having a knack for picking up the perfect item, for whomever she was shopping for.
Surviving along with Russ (Stephens City, VA) are their three children, David “Duke” Cutshall (Purcellville, VA), Edwin Cutshall (Hillsboro, VA) and wife Claire, and Sara Cutshall Gomez (Stephens City, VA) and husband Vance. She has eight grandchildren: Alana Cutshall Downer, Logan Cutshall, Abigail Gomez Callahan, Edison Gomez, Lydia Gomez Green, Katherine Cutshall, Alexander Cutshall, and Kimberly Raabe. She also has eight great-grandchildren.
Patty’s husband, children and grandchildren remember her as an amazing Wife, wonderful Mother, and perfect Grandmother. Through the words of her family, Patricia was loving, compassionate, kind, vibrant, determined, genuine and inspiring.
Patty will be laid to rest at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, in Hammondsport, NY. Family and friends are welcome to a memorial service on Sunday, February 5th, at the Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Lane, Winchester VA 22602.
Patricia’s family would like to thank the Blue Ridge Hospice for their kindness and support during Patty’s final days.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name, to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street #405, Winchester, VA 22601.
